Self-critique: make it grade its own draft before you see it
The best second draft comes free — ask the model to critique and fix its own first draft in one pass. |
Models can spot flaws they just produced if you explicitly ask them to. The pattern (reflexion): generate a draft, then critique it against named criteria, then produce a revised version using its own critique. The leverage is in the criteria you supply — 'check for X, Y, Z' gives the critique teeth. Without named criteria you get a lazy 'looks good!'; with them you get a real edit. |

Task: Write a 3-sentence cold outreach message to a busy founder offering a free audit.
Do this in three labeled parts:
1) DRAFT: Write the message.
2) CRITIQUE: Grade your own draft 1-5 on each: (a) opens with their problem not us, (b) zero filler/cliché, (c) one specific concrete offer, (d) a clear single CTA. For each <4, say exactly what's wrong.
3) FINAL: Rewrite fixing every issue you found.
Return all three parts. |

New to this: After it answers, say 'Now critique that and give me a better version.' You get a free second draft, usually noticeably better.
Vibe coder: Supply the grading criteria yourself ('check for cliches, a single CTA, no filler'). Named criteria turn a vague critique into a real edit.
Advanced: Loop it: generate → critique → revise → re-critique until it scores threshold on every criterion or N iterations hit (reflexion). Cap iterations and log scores so you can see whether the loop actually converges or just churns. |
