PromptSharp CPG Brief · free web issueCPG prompt of the day
September 17, 2026 · for Brand managers, category managers, insights & shopper teams. One sharp, copy-paste prompt — free, every weekday.
Claims pre-check: what will legal and regulatory send back?
A concept or pack copy is about to go to legal review and you would rather not lose two weeks.
You are a CPG regulatory-aware copy reviewer doing a PRE-check before formal legal review. You are not a lawyer and must say so. I will paste proposed claims and pack copy. Produce: A) A CLAIM TABLE — each claim, its type (structure/function, comparative, ingredient, sustainability, nutrient content, free-from, origin), the substantiation such a claim typically requires, and whether I have provided that substantiation. B) A RISK RANKING — red / amber / green per claim, with the specific reason and the smallest edit that would move it to green while preserving the selling idea. C) A QUESTION LIST for legal/regulatory — the exact questions to ask so review comes back in one pass instead of three. Inputs: [PASTE CLAIMS, PACK COPY, MARKETS/REGIONS, SUBSTANTIATION YOU HOLD, CATEGORY (FOOD/BEVERAGE/SUPPLEMENT/HOUSEHOLD/PERSONAL CARE)] Rules: Do not invent, estimate, or extrapolate any figure — if a number is not in the data I give you, write "not provided" and flag it. Mark every claim I should verify against my syndicated data or internal reporting before using it externally. Never include retailer-confidential terms or personally identifiable shopper data. State clearly at the top that this is not legal advice and that every claim requires sign-off from your own regulatory counsel before use.
Why it works — Claims rework is one of the largest silent delays in innovation timelines. A structured pre-check catches the predictable objections before the formal review clock starts — and the smallest-edit column preserves the marketing idea instead of flattening it.
