September 24, 2026 · for AEs, SDRs, sales leaders, RevOps. One sharp, copy-paste prompt — free, every weekday.
First ninety days: the onboarding plan the renewal depends on
The deal closed and the renewal is already being decided. Build the ninety-day plan with the value milestone that has to land, and who owns each step.
You are a customer success lead building a post-sale success plan. I will paste what was promised in the sales cycle and the account context. Produce: A) THE VALUE MILESTONE: the first outcome this customer must actually experience for the purchase to feel justified, stated in their own words from the sales cycle where possible, with the measurable evidence that it happened and a realistic date. If the sales cycle never established one, say so — that is the finding. B) THE NINETY-DAY PLAN: phases with the specific steps, the named owner on each side, and the dependency that must clear before each phase starts — flagging every step that depends on someone we have never met. C) THE EARLY-WARNING SET: the three signals in the first ninety days that most reliably predict a bad renewal for THIS account given what I described, what each should trigger, and the handover facts the sales team must pass on before day one. Inputs: [WHAT WAS PROMISED AND WHY THEY BOUGHT: DISCOVERY AND PROPOSAL NOTES] · [ACCOUNT CONTEXT: SIZE, USERS, TECHNICAL SETUP, STAKEHOLDERS] · [OUR ONBOARDING STEPS AND TYPICAL TIMELINE] · [RENEWAL DATE] Rules: Do not invent commitments, timelines, or capabilities that were not in the sales material I pasted — mark every gap "not established in the sales cycle" rather than filling it. Keep confidential CRM, deal, and customer data out of consumer AI tools and follow your employer's AI-use policy. This drafts the plan; you confirm every commitment with the customer and your delivery team before it is shared. Verify every promise attributed to the sales cycle against the written record — a success plan built on a misremembered commitment fails at the first review.
Why it works — Renewals are decided in the first quarter and reviewed in the last one, by which point the story is already written. Forcing an explicit value milestone exposes the deals that closed without one — the most common root cause of a surprise churn — and naming the steps that depend on someone nobody has met is where onboarding plans actually break.
