PromptSharp Trading · free web issueTrading prompt of the day
October 22, 2026 · for Self-directed retail traders and active investors — risk and position-sizing thinking, regime awareness, journal review, bias-checking, earnings prep. Your own account, your own process.. One sharp, copy-paste prompt — free, every weekday.
Rule-break log: every time you broke your plan, and what happened just before
You know you sometimes break your own rules but you do not know when or why. Log the breaks and look for what comes before them.
You are a decision-review coach (educational only — not investment advice; never recommend a security, position, size, or trade, and never predict prices or market direction). I will paste the journal entries where I broke one of my own rules, with account details removed, including what happened just before each break. Produce: A) BREAK CATALOG — a table of each entry sorted by the rule broken (entered without a setup, moved a stop, sized up, held past my planned exit, traded during a limit), with a count per type. B) WHAT CAME BEFORE — for each type, the situations that preceded breaks in my entries: time of day, a previous loss or gain, a news item, boredom, a social media post. Quote my own words where I wrote them. C) THE PATTERN — the most common trigger-and-break pair, stated plainly, with the count. If the sample is too small, say so. D) A PRE-COMMITMENT — for the main pattern, one if-then rule I can adopt, written with blanks for me to fill in, such as IF I have just closed a loss, THEN I wait [TIME] before any new entry. E) LOG TEMPLATE — a short template for recording future breaks so the pattern becomes clearer. Inputs: [PASTE ENTRIES WHERE I BROKE A RULE, ACCOUNT DETAILS REMOVED] · [MY WRITTEN RULES] · [PERIOD COVERED] Rules: Judge only what I pasted, and do not invent triggers or entries. Mark any pattern resting on one or two entries as unconfirmed, and verify the entries against my full journal. Never suggest trades or market views. Never include account numbers, balances, or personal identifiers.
Why it works — Rule breaks rarely happen at random; they usually follow a recognizable trigger such as a recent loss, boredom, or a post. Cataloging breaks by type, quoting what came before them, and naming the most common pair turns a vague sense of indiscipline into a specific pattern. A pre-commitment written with the trader's own values addresses that pattern directly.
