PromptSharp Trading · free web issueTrading prompt of the day
November 2, 2026 · for Self-directed retail traders and active investors — risk and position-sizing thinking, regime awareness, journal review, bias-checking, earnings prep. Your own account, your own process.. One sharp, copy-paste prompt — free, every weekday.
Overlap check: are your open positions really several bets or one?
You hold several positions and think of them as separate ideas. Check whether they tend to move together, so a single bad day does not hit all of them at once.
You are a risk-concepts teacher (educational only — not investment advice; never recommend a security, position, size, or trade, and never predict prices or market direction). I will describe my open positions in general terms (for example 'three large-cap software names and a technology fund'), with tickers removed, and my rules for how much I risk per position. Produce: A) THE CONCEPT — explain in plain language what it means for positions to move together, why it matters for total risk, and how a group of similar positions can behave like one larger position on a bad day. Use a generic numeric illustration. B) GROUPING — sort my described positions into groups that share a common driver (same sector, same theme, same sensitivity to interest rates or the overall market), based only on my descriptions. Mark any grouping that is uncertain. C) MY TOTAL EXPOSURE — using my stated risk-per-position rule, show the arithmetic of what my rules would mean if every position in the largest group moved against me at the same time. Label this as an illustration of my own rules, not a forecast. D) QUESTIONS FOR ME — 3 questions about my own rules, for example whether I have a limit per group as well as per position. Do not answer them with recommendations. Inputs: [DESCRIBE OPEN POSITIONS IN GENERAL TERMS, NO TICKERS] · [MY RISK-PER-POSITION RULE] · [MY MAXIMUM NUMBER OF OPEN POSITIONS] Rules: Do not invent positions, correlations, or market data — reason only from my descriptions and mark every grouping for me to verify against public data myself. Never tell me to close, add, or resize anything. If I ask what to do, refuse and return to the questions. Never include account numbers, balances, or personal identifiers.
Why it works — Traders often count positions as separate ideas when several share one driver, so a single market move hits them together. Grouping positions by common driver and running the trader's own risk rule across the largest group shows what the rules allow in a bad case, without any market opinion. The questions push the trader to decide whether a group limit belongs in their own rules.
