Best AI video tools in 2026: which one fits which job

This guide replaces The AI Rundown's AI-video round-up (The AI Rundown is now PromptSharp). AI video changes month to month, so we re-checked every tool below against its maker's own website on October 8, 2026 and removed every model name, plan detail and feature we could not confirm there. We do not list prices: they change faster than any guide, so each entry links to the maker's pricing page. Then, because the prompt matters more than the tool, there are five copy-paste text-to-video prompts at the bottom.

Last checked against each maker's own site: .

PromptSharp Daily — free

The cross-vertical sampler: one sharp, copy-paste prompt most weekday mornings, plus a Sunday roundup, rotating across the roster. Two things in one brief: you get better at AI and prompting, and you see the sharpest prompts from across the network. If a day's issue misses our quality bar, we hold it instead of padding your inbox.

Copy-paste text-to-video prompts

Written by PromptSharp. They work in any of the generators above; trim to the controls your tool exposes.

Text-to-videoFREE

The text-to-video prompt formula

Any generator. Fill the brackets; leave out what you do not care about.

[Shot type] of [subject] [doing one clear action], in [setting], [time of day and lighting]. Camera: [movement, e.g. slow dolly-in / static / handheld follow]. Style: [e.g. documentary, 35mm film, clean product render]. Mood: [one or two words]. Duration: [seconds]. Aspect ratio: [16:9 / 9:16 / 1:1].

Why it works — Video models read prompts as a shot list. Naming the camera move and one action per clip stops the model from inventing motion you did not ask for.

Text-to-videoFREE

Product hero shot

E-commerce and launch visuals from a single product description.

Close-up product shot of [product, material, colour] rotating slowly on a [surface], soft studio key light from the left with a gentle rim light, shallow depth of field, clean [colour] background. Camera: slow 180-degree orbit. Style: premium commercial. Duration: 6 seconds. Aspect ratio: 1:1. No text, no logos, no hands.

Why it works — The negative list at the end (no text, logos, hands) removes the three things models most often get wrong on product clips.

Text-to-videoFREE

B-roll for a talking-head video

Cutaways to drop between interview or podcast segments.

Medium shot of [person type] [working at / using] [object] in a [setting], natural window light, muted colours. Camera: static, eye level. Style: documentary, realistic. The person does not look at the camera. Duration: 5 seconds. Aspect ratio: 16:9.

Why it works — B-roll has to sit under someone else's voice, so it should be calm: a static camera, no eye contact and muted colour keep it from competing with the speaker.

Text-to-videoFREE

Vertical social hook (first 3 seconds)

Reels, Shorts and TikTok openers.

Vertical 9:16. Extreme close-up of [surprising detail related to the topic], then a fast pull-back that reveals [the wider scene]. Bright, high-contrast lighting. Camera: quick zoom-out in the first second, then steady. Style: punchy, modern. Duration: 3 seconds. Leave the top third of the frame clear for on-screen text.

Why it works — The reveal creates the scroll-stopping moment, and reserving the top third of the frame leaves room for the caption you will add in an editor.

Text-to-videoFREE

Cinematic establishing shot

Openers for explainers, trailers and storytelling videos.

Wide establishing shot of [location] at [golden hour / blue hour / night], [weather], a few small figures for scale. Camera: slow aerial push-in. Style: cinematic, anamorphic, gentle film grain. Mood: [calm / tense / hopeful]. Duration: 8 seconds. Aspect ratio: 16:9.

Why it works — Time of day, weather and a sense of scale do more for the look than adjectives like 'epic' or 'stunning', which most models ignore.

How to get better clips

Frequently asked

What is the best free AI video tool?

It depends on the job. On October 8, 2026, Runway, HeyGen, Synthesia, Descript and CapCut each offered a free option on their own sites, and Pika's free plan had no monthly credits. Free plans change often, so check the linked pricing page before you start a project.

Which AI video tool generates sound as well as video?

Google's Veo 3.1 generates audio (sound effects, ambience and dialogue) together with the video, according to Google DeepMind's Veo page.

Do these prompts work in every tool?

Yes. The formula is model-agnostic: subject, one action, setting, light, camera, style, length and aspect ratio. Each tool has its own limits on clip length and controls, so trim the prompt to what the tool exposes.

Why are there no prices here?

Prices and credit allowances in AI video change month to month, and a stale price is worse than none. Every entry links to the maker's own pricing page.
