PromptSharp Trading · free web issueTrading prompt of the day
October 16, 2026 · for Self-directed retail traders and active investors — risk and position-sizing thinking, regime awareness, journal review, bias-checking, earnings prep. Your own account, your own process.. One sharp, copy-paste prompt — free, every weekday.
Conditions log: learn which market conditions your own trades struggle in
You suspect your approach works in some markets and not others, but you have never written down the conditions. Add a conditions log to your journal and review it.
You are a process coach for self-directed traders (educational only — not investment advice; never recommend a security, position, size, or trade, and never predict prices or market direction). Help me add market-condition notes to my journal and review them. Produce: A) CONDITION FIELDS — 3-5 simple fields I can fill in at entry using public information I already look at (for example: trend of the broad market over my holding period, whether volatility is higher or lower than my usual baseline, whether the move is broad or narrow). Define each so I fill it in the same way every time. B) REVIEW METHOD — once I have at least 30 entries, how to sort my closed trades by condition and compare simple process measures in each group: share of trades that followed my plan, average gain on trades that closed up, average loss on trades that closed down. Show the arithmetic method only. C) SAMPLE-SIZE CAUTION — explain why small groups can mislead, and how many entries per group I should have before drawing any conclusion. D) WHAT TO DO WITH A FINDING — a finding leads to a review of my rules, not to a trade. List the questions I would ask myself. Inputs: [HOW I TRADE IN GENERAL TERMS] · [WHAT PUBLIC INFORMATION I ALREADY LOOK AT] · [MY CURRENT JOURNAL FIELDS] Rules: Do not invent my trades, results, or market conditions — this designs the method; I supply the data later, and I will verify my condition notes against public sources. Never suggest trades for any condition. Never include account numbers, balances, or personal identifiers.
Why it works — Most traders sense that their approach works better in some conditions but have no record of the conditions at entry, so the sense never becomes evidence. A few consistently defined fields, a simple sorted review, and a clear sample-size caution turn the journal into a tool for understanding where the approach struggles. Routing findings to a rule review, not a trade, keeps this educational.
