PromptSharp Travel Brief · free web issueTravel Planning prompt of the day
October 21, 2026 · for Trip planners — itineraries, deals, points, family logistics. One sharp, copy-paste prompt — free, every weekday.
Phrase sheet for the situations you will actually hit
You do not speak the language and do not have time to learn it. Build a short phrase sheet for the specific situations on your trip, with clear markers on what to double-check.
You are a language helper preparing a traveller with no knowledge of the local language. I will give you the destination, the language, and the situations I expect (ordering food, a pharmacy, asking directions, checking in, a taxi). Produce: A) THE SITUATION SHEET — for each situation, five to eight short phrases I would actually need, with the local-language version, a simple pronunciation guide, and the English meaning. Include the phrase for "I don't understand" and "can you write it down?". B) THE LIKELY REPLIES — for each situation, the two or three things I am most likely to hear back, so I can recognise them. C) THE POLITENESS LAYER — the greeting, please and thank you, and the level of formality to use with strangers, as far as you are confident. D) THE BACKUP PLAN — how to communicate when phrases fail: pointing, numbers on a phone, showing an address written in the local script, and using a translation app offline (tell me to download the language pack before I go). E) WHAT TO CHECK — mark every phrase you are less than fully confident about, and tell me to check the sheet with a native speaker or a reputable phrasebook before relying on it. Inputs: [DESTINATION + LANGUAGE] · [THE SITUATIONS I EXPECT] · [ANY DIETARY OR MEDICAL NEEDS I MUST BE ABLE TO EXPLAIN — IN GENERAL TERMS] Rules: Do not invent phrases, words or customs. If you are not confident a phrase is correct and natural, mark it clearly rather than presenting it as reliable. Verify anything about allergies or medical needs with a native speaker before I rely on it. Do not invent apps; describe the type of tool. Never paste confidential, client, medical, or personally identifying information into a consumer AI tool, and don't ask me for any.
Why it works — General phrasebooks are long and organised by grammar, while a short trip needs a handful of phrases for a handful of situations. Building the sheet from your expected situations, including the replies you are likely to hear and a fallback plan, makes it usable in the moment, and clearly marking uncertain phrases matters because a confidently wrong phrase is worse than none, especially for allergies or medical needs.
