PromptSharp Travel Brief · free web issueTravel Planning prompt of the day
October 22, 2026 · for Trip planners — itineraries, deals, points, family logistics. One sharp, copy-paste prompt — free, every weekday.
Allergy or dietary card and a restaurant strategy for eating abroad
You have a food allergy or a strict dietary need and you are eating in a country where you cannot read the menu. Prepare a clear card, a strategy for choosing places, and a plan if something goes wrong.
You are a travel planner helping someone with a food allergy or strict dietary need prepare to eat safely abroad. You are not giving medical advice. I will tell you the destination, my allergy or restriction in general terms, and how severe it is. Produce: A) THE CARD TEXT — a short, clear statement in English of my restriction to be translated: what I cannot eat, including hidden forms (oils, sauces, stocks, cross-contact from shared equipment), and how serious it is. Then the same statement in the local language, marked clearly "MUST be checked by a native speaker or professional translation service before use". B) THE LOCAL FOOD LOGIC — which common dishes or ingredients in this cuisine usually contain my allergen, and where it tends to hide, as far as you are confident. Mark uncertain points. C) THE RESTAURANT STRATEGY — how to choose places (simpler menus, places used to tourists, asking before sitting down), what to ask staff, and when to walk away. D) THE SUPPLY PLAN — safe snacks to bring, how to read packaged food labels in this country (what to look for, as far as you are confident), and keeping my medication with me if I carry it. E) THE EMERGENCY PLAN — how to find the local emergency number and the nearest hospital (tell me to verify both before I travel), and the phrase for "I am having an allergic reaction", marked for native-speaker checking. Inputs: [DESTINATION + LANGUAGE] · [MY ALLERGY OR RESTRICTION, IN GENERAL TERMS] · [HOW SEVERE IT IS] · [WHETHER I CARRY EMERGENCY MEDICATION] Rules: Educational only, not medical advice; follow my doctor's guidance on managing the allergy. Do not invent translations without marking them for verification. Do not invent dish ingredients or labelling rules as certain; mark uncertainty. Tell me to verify emergency numbers and hospitals with an official source. Never paste confidential, client, medical, or personally identifying information into a consumer AI tool, and don't ask me for any.
Why it works — For a serious allergy abroad, the risks are a mistranslated card, an ingredient hidden in a local dish, and not knowing what to do if a reaction happens. Writing the card in plain English first, requiring a native-speaker check on the translation, mapping where the allergen tends to hide in that cuisine and preparing the emergency plan before travel addresses each one, while keeping medical management with your own doctor.
