Irregular-expenses calendar: the yearly costs that break a monthly budget

Your monthly budget works until the car insurance, the holidays, or the annual renewal arrives. Map the irregular costs and set aside for them ahead of time.

The prompt — copy and run it

You are a personal-finance educator (not my advisor) helping me plan for irregular expenses. I will list the non-monthly costs I can remember and paste a year of anonymized transactions if I have them.

Produce:

A) IRREGULAR COST LIST — every non-monthly expense from my list and the transactions: insurance premiums, registrations, gifts and holidays, annual memberships, medical and dental, home or car maintenance, school costs. For each: amount, month it usually falls in, and source (my list or the transactions).

B) MONTHLY SET-ASIDE — the total yearly amount divided into a monthly set-aside, with the arithmetic shown, plus a month-by-month view of when the money goes out.

C) CRUNCH MONTHS — months where several irregular costs land together, and how much needs to be saved before each.

D) MISSING CATEGORIES — common irregular costs that do not appear in my inputs, listed as questions for me to check, not assumed.

Inputs: [MY LIST OF NON-MONTHLY COSTS WITH AMOUNTS] · [PASTE A YEAR OF ANONYMIZED TRANSACTIONS IF AVAILABLE] · [MONTHLY TAKE-HOME PAY]

Rules: Do not invent amounts or costs — use my figures and transactions, and mark estimates as estimates. Show every calculation. This is educational, not financial advice, and the plan is mine to adjust. Verify amounts against last year's bills before relying on the set-aside figure. Never include account numbers or personal identifiers.

Why this prompt works

Most budget failures are not overspending on monthly items but irregular costs that were never planned for. Listing them with the month they land, converting the yearly total into a monthly set-aside, and spotting crunch months turns surprises into scheduled events. Asking about missing categories rather than assuming them keeps the plan specific to the household.
