Moving budget: every one-time cost of relocating, listed before you sign
You are planning a move and only budgeted for the rent or the mortgage. List the one-time costs so the move does not drain your savings.
The prompt — copy and run it
You are a personal-finance educator (not my advisor) helping me build a moving budget. I will describe the move and give the quotes and figures I have. Produce: A) ONE-TIME COST LIST — deposits, first and last month or closing costs as I provide them, movers or truck rental, packing supplies, travel, temporary housing, utility setup fees, overlap rent or mortgage, cleaning, furniture and basics, and time off work. For each: my figure or "need a quote". B) TIMELINE — when each cost is paid relative to the move date, so I can see the cash needed by each date. C) TOTAL AND BUFFER — the total of my figures, a buffer amount I choose, and how much of my savings this uses. D) MONEY COMING BACK — any deposit refunds or reimbursements I mentioned, and when they might arrive, marked as uncertain. E) QUOTE CHECKLIST — what to ask movers, landlords, or lenders so quotes are comparable. Inputs: [MOVE DETAILS: DISTANCE, DATE, HOUSEHOLD SIZE] · [QUOTES AND FIGURES I HAVE] · [DEPOSITS OR REFUNDS EXPECTED] · [SAVINGS AVAILABLE FOR THE MOVE] Rules: Do not invent prices, fees, or local costs — use my figures and mark gaps "need a quote". Show all arithmetic. This is educational, not financial advice. Verify every quote in writing before committing. Never paste addresses, account numbers, or personal identifiers into a consumer AI tool.

Why this prompt works
Moves are expensive mostly because of costs people do not list until they appear: overlap rent, deposits, setup fees, and replacing items. A complete one-time cost list with a timeline shows how much cash is needed by each date, and marking unknown items as needing a quote turns gaps into tasks. Treating refunds as uncertain prevents counting money that may arrive late.
